Challenge:For sports fans, the internet is becoming the prime source for watching games, especially of lower and regional leagues. The production house Double Take Productions is picking up on this trend and has taken on the task of web streaming all regional Rugby events in Australia. In March 2018, they upgraded their pipeline with a real-time graphics workflow based on Singular.live. The Molden Media team supported them with the creation of a Singular.live graphics package and a custom web control interface.
Providing a sports graphics package for the live online streaming of Rugby matches in New Zealand
With up to four games taking place at the same time, but only two operators to handle the workload, our team at Molden Media designed a control interface that is clearly laid out and easy to run. While one operator caters to a single primary game, the other one takes care of the remaining three secondary games on a PC. To switch between games, the operator enters the according “channel ID” into his interface which then connects swiftly with the playout server via the Singular.live REST API. Every change then updates the Singular.live graphics output in real-time.
The primary game needs a bit more care. While the operator in the control room has full control over the graphics management, the camera man on site can influence the game clock via his mobile phone. With direct access to the referee, his information is usually more on point and he can react quickly to anything happening on the field.
The graphics package itself includes a number of high-end elements as they are used in TV sports broadcasts: clocks, scores, lineups, player charts and much more. Singular.live offers extensive design and animation functionalities which we used to create a compelling package with a professional, sophisticated look-and-feel.
